the last night

i moved! yay! to kansas city! yay!

if you think kansas city is a lame place, or that it’s in kansas, I’m here to prove you wrong. (well, half wrong. technically part of kansas city is in kansas. but not the downtown part, or the part with my office, or the part with my apartment.)

but I’ve only been here a week, and it’s good.

also, moving to a new city by myself is probably one of the hardest things I’ve done.

the place and the life are good. and that’s what really matters. I’m so, so grateful to be here. & even though this is one of the hardest things I’ve done, it’s also one of the coolest. how often do we get to start over completely from scratch, knowing zero people, and zero things about the world you’re suddenly in? that’s pretty cool, I think.

one of the by-products of living on your own is that you have thoughts! or at least I do. lots and lots of thoughts! but I’m going to save those for another day because I’m behind and I can’t just move straight on to the Kansas City thoughts without paying my respects to Utah and my last night there.

so here are the respects:

Utah, you made the last 4 years of my life the greatest. a lot of it was actually you (mountains!), but most of it was your people. so thx, peace, blessings, I’ll be back to visit, take care of my friends, don’t let the Wasatch fault line have an earthquake, etc. etc. etc. bye!

and here are some photos from the last night in Utah, which was a trip to Saratoga Springs, because I always wondered what life looks like from the other side of the lake.

normal days

today was a quality one.

morning: wake up at 6:15 to go running with 2/3 of the roommates, which was a normal run + hills, but mikelle was also on some sort of crazy running drug that hyped up our pace {super great, by the way}, so that made life fun. and the world at that hour of the morning is so crisp and clean and fresh and goodness, i need to find a way to get myself outside that early more often. and that feeling you get after a good hard run in the cold is my favorite.

ha, then by the time it got to 11:00, time to go to class, it felt like i’d already been up for an eternity. like, did we go running yesterday? or was that really just this morning?’s growing on me.

then evening: the weekly roommate date with mikelle, that we’re turning into a tradition. yes, we walked all way to the end of the world from our apartment just to get gyros from the Greek food truck {the only reason i’d consider living at the riv} and Swig. s o  g o o d. {also, swig is super dangerous because it’s so delicious and their soda isn’t as carbonated, i’ve discovered, which is why i hate normal soda…so that all basically means that i’m hooked.}

then to top off the roommate date we had some good old fun with midterm studying. meh. ha, the kids in the library probably thought we were ridiculous. we figured out that us + caffeine = waaaayyy too much for any normal person to handle. no worries, we were on that one floor of the library where talking {and laughing a ridiculous amount} is allowed.

so yeah, provo life is pretty rad.

these are the lovely, random college days that i’ll remember when this life season is over.  i’m grateful for simplicity and laughter.

indian food + photo adventures

Mmm it was a good weekend. The closer it gets to moving out, the more I realize how much I’m going to miss the life that I’ve made here in Provo this year. I’m excited to go home, and I’m excited for all that my summer will hold, but I’m full of all sorts of bittersweet feelings, because this year has just been so good. Less than two weeks left and I’m dyinnnnngggg!

Friday night was quite stellar, and it involved Indian food at Bombay House with the roommates, which was, of course, the best. Chicken coconut kurma and garlic naan bread for the win. Every time. We’ve talked about going to eat at Bombay House all year, and we finally got around to it just before the end of the semester. Food like this just makes me want to travel all over the entire world and eat delicious ethnic food every day of my life.

I was going to take a nice pretty picture of my plate {see bottom right}, but then I forgot and went and messed it up. That’s why I’m not a food blogger. Hopefully Caroline’s {see top right}, which still looks normal, makes up for it.

Saturday was a nice day for doing mostly nothing except look at blog improvement articles all day, and take a nap on the couch, and sit on Pinterest. But nothing days are always much-needed, right? And hey, I got ready, so that’s always a plus. {Excuse the dirty mirror.}

When we’d lazed around enough, Caroline and I trekked on-campus to the library where we checked out a couple DSLR cameras, and then went on an adventure with said cameras up into the neighborhood behind our apartment, and to a field-sort-of-a-thing that happens to be tucked up in there. And we took lots of pictures. And it was great. And now I really want a DSLR.

{Can you spot the hole in the cardigan??? College probs. I’m looking forward to a trip to Old Navy when I get home.}

Right after church today we walked up to the same spot, and it was lovely. Today was just the perfect day, with the perfect temperature, and perfect-smelling flowers everywhere, and blue sky, and I’m going to miss days like these. Stay tuned for the end result of the photography adventures. In the meantime, here are a couple sneak peaks of my lovely roommate, who is a babe, and all eligible gentlemen should want to date her.

Let’s sing praises for better-quality-than-iphone images for a change. I hope everyone that happens to read this has a fabulous next seven days, and look out Idaho, because I’ll be coming for you in less than two weeks. {Insert alternating sad & happy faces here.} And Martha’s Vineyard, don’t think you’re off the hook, because I’ll be coming for you in less than two months. So be ready.

{If you want something uplifting to read, check out THIS TALK that I discovered in Relief Society today at church. Elder Holland is the best. }
